Piercing guide › Body piercings › Nape
The nape piercing is a surface piercing on the back of the neck, usually in the centre below the hairline. Entry and exit lie side by side on the same plane.
I check how much skin can be lifted and how it behaves when you move your head. The piercing is done with a needle; the channel lies flat under the skin.
A surface bar made of Bioplast or titanium to ASTM F136.
Studios don't give separate figures for the nape piercing. Pain and healing correspond to surface piercings.
If the skin on the back of the neck is under tension, the risk of it growing out is high. Then I say no.
With surface piercings, entry and exit lie on the same plane. The body can therefore push the jewellery out more easily. If the channel gets shorter or the jewellery shows through the skin, get in touch early.
How to care for the piercing in each phase is explained in detail on the Care and aftercare page. The short version: sterile saline solution, don't twist, don't fiddle with it, be patient.
