Piercing guide › Body piercings › Hip
The hip piercing is a surface piercing over the front of the hip bone. It is usually done on both sides.
I check the spot when you stand, sit and bend over, because the skin there shifts a lot. The piercing is done with a needle; the channel lies flat under the skin.
A surface bar made of Bioplast or titanium to ASTM F136.
Studios don't give separate figures for the hip piercing. Pain and healing correspond to surface piercings.
If the spot lies right under the waistband or in a fold, I say no.
With surface piercings, entry and exit lie on the same plane. The body can therefore push the jewellery out more easily. If the channel gets shorter or the jewellery shows through the skin, get in touch early.
How to care for the piercing in each phase is explained in detail on the Care and aftercare page. The short version: sterile saline solution, don't twist, don't fiddle with it, be patient.

Pain and healing time are guide values, averaged from information given by piercing and tattoo studios. Where the figures come from. Everyone feels and heals differently.
