Horizontal navel piercing
at a glance

With a horizontal navel piercing, the bar runs horizontally above or beside the navel. It is a surface piercing: entry and exit lie on the same plane.

How I
pierce it

I check how much skin can be lifted and how the spot behaves when you sit. The piercing is done with a needle; the channel lies flat under the skin.

Jewellery

A surface bar made of Bioplast or titanium to ASTM F136.

As a surface piercing, it grows out more often than the classic navel piercing.

When I
say no

If the spot lies in a fold when you sit, the risk of it growing out is high. Then I say no.

Typical mistakes

Healing
and care

With surface piercings, entry and exit lie on the same plane. The body can therefore push the jewellery out more easily. If the channel gets shorter or the jewellery shows through the skin, get in touch early.

How to care for the piercing in each phase is explained in detail on the Care and aftercare page. The short version: sterile saline solution, don't twist, don't fiddle with it, be patient.

When to see a doctor

  • Redness and swelling keep increasing after the first few days.
  • Pus comes out, or you develop a fever.

Pain and healing time are guide values, averaged from information given by piercing and tattoo studios. Where the figures come from. Everyone feels and heals differently.
