Lower navel piercing (inverse navel)
at a glance

This piercing doesn't sit at the upper rim of the navel as usual, but at the lower rim. It is often done in addition to the classic navel piercing.

How I
pierce it

I check the navel standing and sitting. The lower rim must form a pronounced fold, otherwise the jewellery won't sit still.

Jewellery

A curved bar made of Bioplast or titanium to ASTM F136.

Studios don't give separate figures for the lower rim of the navel. Pain and healing correspond to the classic navel piercing.

When I
say no

Without a pronounced lower fold I advise against it. I don't pierce during pregnancy.

Healing
and care

How to care for the piercing in each phase is explained in detail on the Care and aftercare page. The short version: sterile saline solution, don't twist, don't fiddle with it, be patient.

When to see a doctor

  • Redness and swelling keep increasing after the first few days.
  • Pus comes out, or you develop a fever.

Pain and healing time are guide values, averaged from information given by piercing and tattoo studios. Where the figures come from. Everyone feels and heals differently.
