Bridge piercing
at a glance

The bridge sits horizontally across the bridge of the nose between the eyes. It only goes through the skin, not through bone or cartilage.

How I
pierce it

I check whether enough skin can be lifted at the spot. Then I mark both points symmetrically to the eyes and pierce with a needle.

Jewellery

As initial jewellery I use a straight or slightly curved bar made of Bioplast or titanium to ASTM F136.

When I
say no

If hardly any skin can be lifted, the piercing is under tension and more likely to grow out. If you wear glasses every day with a bridge that sits on the spot, you should skip it.

Typical mistakes

Healing
and care

With surface piercings, entry and exit lie on the same plane. The body can therefore push the jewellery out more easily. If the channel gets shorter or the jewellery shows through the skin, get in touch early.

How to care for the piercing in each phase is explained in detail on the Care and aftercare page. The short version: sterile saline solution, don't twist, don't fiddle with it, be patient.

When to see a doctor

  • Redness and swelling keep increasing after the first few days.
  • Pus comes out, or you develop a fever.

Pain and healing time are guide values, averaged from information given by piercing and tattoo studios. Where the figures come from. Everyone feels and heals differently.
