Piercing guide › Body piercings › Skindiver
Like the microdermal, a skindiver is a single-point piercing: there's only one opening, and the base sits in a small pocket under the skin. It is smaller and flatter than a microdermal and therefore also fits in places with little room, such as on the face or in a tattoo.
I create a small opening in the skin and place the base of the skindiver flat underneath. The right depth is important, so that it's neither pushed out nor grows in too deep.
Skindiver made of titanium to ASTM F136. Unlike the microdermal, the base and top are usually one piece. Changing the top later is therefore generally not intended.
Studios don't give fixed figures for the skindiver, because both depend heavily on the part of the body. Pain and healing are therefore guide values from my own practice. Depending on the spot, it can take less or more time.
I advise against spots with a lot of movement or friction. If you want to change the jewellery regularly, a microdermal is the better choice.
How to care for the piercing in each phase is explained in detail on the Care and aftercare page. The short version: sterile saline solution, don't twist, don't fiddle with it, be patient.
When to see a doctor
Pain and healing time are guide values, averaged from information given by piercing and tattoo studios. Where the figures come from. Everyone feels and heals differently.
