Piercing guide › Face piercings › Nostril
The nostril piercing sits on the side of the nostril, usually in the crease where the nostril meets the cheek. It goes through skin and a thin layer of cartilage.
Together we choose the height and angle that suit your nose, and I mark the point. Only after your confirmation do I pierce with a needle, from the outside in.
As initial jewellery I use a bar with a flat disc on the inside, made of Bioplast or titanium to ASTM F136. A ring is only an option once healing is complete.
High nostril: sits higher on the nostril, in firmer cartilage. The jewellery needs more room on the inside, and healing tends to take longer. Double nostril: two holes above or next to each other; each heals on its own.
If there's acute inflammation or a rash on the nose, I don't pierce.
The nostril consists of cartilage. It heals more slowly than skin, even if the spot looks calm from the outside earlier.
How to care for the piercing in each phase is explained in detail on the Care and aftercare page. The short version: sterile saline solution, don't twist, don't fiddle with it, be patient.
When to see a doctor
