Transverse lobe
at a glance

With a transverse lobe, the bar doesn't run from front to back, but horizontally from one side of the earlobe to the other. Only the two ends on the edge are visible.

How I
pierce it

The channel is much longer than with a normal ear piercing. I check whether the earlobe is thick enough, mark the entry and exit and only pierce after your confirmation.

Jewellery

A straight or slightly curved bar made of Bioplast or titanium to ASTM F136. I determine the length after measuring.

When I
say no

A thin or small earlobe can't hold the bar stably. Anyone prone to overgrowth of scar tissue (keloids) should avoid it.

Healing
and care

How to care for the piercing in each phase is explained in detail on the Care and aftercare page. The short version: sterile saline solution, don't twist, don't fiddle with it, be patient.

When to see a doctor

  • Redness and swelling keep increasing after the first few days.
  • Pus comes out, or you develop a fever.

Pain and healing time are guide values, averaged from information given by piercing and tattoo studios. Where the figures come from. Everyone feels and heals differently.
