Piercing guide › Ear piercings › Earlobe
The earlobe is the soft lower part of the ear. It contains no cartilage and has a good blood supply. That's why it is the piercing that heals fastest.
I measure and mark the position on both sides so that the holes are symmetrical. You see the points in the mirror and confirm them before I pierce. The piercing is done with a sterile single-use needle.
As initial jewellery I use a stud made of Bioplast or titanium to ASTM F136. Rings only become an option from week eight at the earliest, never as initial jewellery.
The same applies to a second or third hole. The pain values are similar, a little higher further up the earlobe. The spacing is important: I measure it so that the row looks even.
Almost every earlobe is suitable. With very small or attached earlobes, I plan the position particularly carefully so that enough tissue remains below the hole.
How to care for the piercing in each phase is explained in detail on the Care and aftercare page. The short version: sterile saline solution, don't twist, don't fiddle with it, be patient.
