Piercing guide › Ear piercings › Vertical tragus
The vertical tragus is a surface piercing. It runs vertically through the skin directly in front of the tragus, on the cheek in front of the ear. Entry and exit lie on the same plane.
I check how much skin can be lifted at the spot and mark both points. The piercing is done with a needle; the channel lies flat under the skin.
As initial jewellery I use a surface bar made of Bioplast or titanium to ASTM F136. Its shape ensures as little tension on the skin as possible.
The healing time is the guide value the studios give for surface piercings.
If the skin can hardly be lifted or is under tension, the risk is high that the body will push the jewellery out. Then I say no.
With surface piercings, entry and exit lie on the same plane. The body can therefore push the jewellery out more easily. If the channel gets shorter or the jewellery shows through the skin, get in touch early.
How to care for the piercing in each phase is explained in detail on the Care and aftercare page. The short version: sterile saline solution, don't twist, don't fiddle with it, be patient.
When to see a doctor
Pain and healing time are guide values, averaged from information given by piercing and tattoo studios. Where the figures come from. Everyone feels and heals differently.
