Pain and healing time are guide values, averaged from information given by piercing and tattoo studios. Where the figures come from. “n/a” means: too few studios give a figure.
The mucous membrane in the mouth has a very good blood supply. That's why tongue and frenulum piercings heal faster than most others. On the other hand, the tongue and lips swell noticeably in the first few days.
That's why the initial jewellery is longer. Once the swelling has gone down, I shorten it. If you skip that, you risk the jewellery knocking against your teeth and gums.
After eating, rinse with clean water or an alcohol-free mouthwash. Smoking and alcohol delay healing. Have your dentist check your teeth and gums at your regular check-ups.
If there is severe swelling that makes swallowing or breathing difficult, call the emergency number 112 immediately.
Not sure yet which piercing suits you? We'll sort that out before the appointment.
